The Chittaranjan Park Kali Mandir Society is far more than a place of worship. Over the past five decades, it has grown into a vibrant centre of religious, social, cultural, and educational activities that serve the community throughout the year. The 3.5-acre Mandir Complex houses a wide range of facilities and programmes, all guided by the ideals of devotion, service, and the preservation of Bengali heritage.

Religious Activities

The temple is the spiritual heart of Chittaranjan Park, offering daily worship and a full calendar of religious observances:

  • Daily Puja — performed every morning by the temple priests with traditional rituals and offerings to Goddess Kali, Lord Shiva, and Radha-Krishna
  • Mangal Arati — the early morning arati that marks the auspicious beginning of each day at the temple
  • Bhogarati — the mid-day arati performed after the bhog (food offering) to the deities
  • Sandhyarati — the atmospheric evening arati, accompanied by the ringing of bells, conch shells, and devotional songs
  • Special Festival Celebrations — the temple celebrates all major Hindu and Bengali festivals with elaborate rituals, decorations, and community participation, including:

Social Services

Inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the Kali Mandir Society runs numerous social service programmes for the benefit of the community:

Free Yoga Centre

The temple runs a free Yoga centre within the Mandir Complex, offering regular yoga sessions to promote physical and mental well-being among community members of all ages.

Free Bengali Learning Classes

To preserve the mother tongue among younger generations growing up in Delhi, the Society offers free Bengali language classes, helping children and adults learn to read, write, and speak Bengali.

Homeopathy & Naturopathy Dispensaries

The temple operates free Homeopathy and Naturopathy dispensaries, providing medical consultations and medicines at no cost to the community, serving the elderly and economically weaker sections.

Vivekananda Centenary Library

The Vivekananda Centenary Library is one of the most valued institutions within the Mandir Complex. A treasure house of knowledge and literature, it serves as a reading room and lending library for the community.

Other Social Welfare Programmes

  • Student Educational Assistance — the Society provides financial assistance and support to deserving students from the community to help them pursue their education
  • Patient Medical Expense Assistance — financial help is extended to community members facing serious illness or requiring expensive medical treatment
  • Senior Citizen Care — special attention and care programmes for elderly community members, including visits, assistance, and social engagement activities
  • Daridra Narayan Sewa — a monthly feeding programme inspired by Swami Vivekananda's philosophy of serving God through serving the poor. Regular meals are distributed to the underprivileged as an act of devotion and compassion

Sports & Cultural Activities

The Mandir Complex is a vibrant centre of cultural life, hosting a rich calendar of events that celebrate Bengali heritage and foster community spirit.

Netaji Subhas Hall

The Netaji Subhas Hall, a 150-seat auditorium within the complex, serves as the primary venue for cultural programmes, meetings, and community gatherings. It is equipped for hosting performances, lectures, and ceremonies throughout the year.

Annual Cultural Celebrations

  • Naba Barsha — the Bengali New Year, celebrated with cultural programmes, traditional food, and community gatherings
  • Rabindra Jayanti — the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, marked with recitations of his poetry, songs (Rabindra Sangeet), and literary discussions
  • Barsha Mangal — the celebration of the monsoon season, a cherished Bengali tradition featuring cultural performances and community festivities

Birthday Celebrations of Great Personalities

The Society observes the birth anniversaries of distinguished Indian personalities who have shaped the nation's spiritual, intellectual, and cultural life:

  • Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose — 23 January
  • Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar — 26 September
  • Sri Aurobindo — 15 August
  • Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa — celebrated on Tithi (as per Bengali calendar)
  • Maa Sarada Devi — celebrated on Tithi (as per Bengali calendar)
  • Swami Vivekananda — 12 January (also observed as National Youth Day)
  • Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose — 30 November

Events for Children & Youth

  • Children's Day Programmes — special cultural events and activities for children are organised in January, coinciding with the birth anniversary celebrations of Netaji and Swami Vivekananda
  • Annual Sports — held in January each year, the annual sports event brings together community members of all ages for athletic competitions, games, and team events within the Mandir Complex

Gunijan — Felicitation of Bengali Dignitaries

The Gunijan programme is a distinguished tradition of the Society, dedicated to honouring and felicitating eminent Bengali personalities who have made significant contributions to various fields. This event celebrates the achievements of the community and serves as an inspiration for the younger generation.

Over the decades, the Society has developed the Mandir Complex into a comprehensive, well-maintained campus that serves the spiritual, social, and recreational needs of the community.

Named after the great Vaishnava saint, this hall serves as a venue for religious discourses, devotional gatherings, and community events.

Named in honour of Swami Vivekananda, this hall hosts educational programmes, social welfare activities, and community meetings.

Annual Get Together

The Society organises an Annual Get Together in February each year, bringing together all Life Members for an evening of camaraderie, cultural performances, and community bonding. This event is a cherished tradition that strengthens the bonds within the Society and provides an opportunity for members to review the year's activities and plan for the future.
